Facebook can be an amazing way to getting your name and business out there.  When you think about the 1.4 billion Facebook accounts worldwide with 890 million daily active users… you quickly realize that Facebook is not a marketing tool you can ignore.

Previously we talked about the advantages and disadvantages of Facebook.  We also talked about how to do Facebook ads.

Today we’ll be talking about how to use Facebook pixels when you are running Facebook ads for your business.

Using Facebook pixels can have a significant impact on the results you get with Facebook ads.  Let’s cover this is a bit more in detail.

What Is And Why Use A Facebook Pixel

A Facebook pixel is some JavaScript code that goes into your website that enables you to measure, optimize and build audiences for your Facebook ad campaigns.  Using the Facebook pixel, you can leverage the actions people take on your website to help you have more effective Facebook advertising campaigns.

The Facebook pixel you can:

  • Measure cross-device conversions: See how your customers are moving between devices before they convert.
  • Optimize delivery to people likely to take action: Ensure your ads are being seen by people most likely to take the action you want them to take, like purchase or fill out a form.
  • Automatically build audiences for website visitors to retarget: Create Custom Audiences for people who take specific actions on your website, like visited the product page, added to the cart or purchased a product.
  • Create Lookalike Audiences: Find more people who similar to your best customers.
  • Run dynamic product ads: Create relevant and timely ads on Facebook based on the products people have visited on your website.
  • Access Audience Insights: Get rich insights about the people who visit your website.

So let’s get started with putting your Facebook pixels into your website or marketing funnel.

Step 1: Get The Pixel

First, go to the Pixel section.

Next, call up the pixel code.

This will call up a window where you can copy the pixel code from.

Paste The Code Into A Text Document

To make things easier, I recommend pasting the Facebook pixel code into a text document, like Notepad or even Microsoft Word.  This will make it easier to see all the code in order to make the next step easier.

Add In The Conversion Code

First, open up the Create Conversion window by clicking the button.

Then select “Track Conversions With Standard Events.”

Open up all the standard events by clicking “See More.”

And then pick the right code for the pixel you want to place.

Picking What Pixel Conversion Code Do You Use

The pixel conversion code you pick is dependent on what you are trying to track.  You want to put the code the page AFTER the desired event you want to measure.  For example, if you want to measure leads then you need to put that conversion code on the page right after the lead is collected (often the thank you page).

Put Code Into Website

The final step is to put the Facebook pixel code into the website page header.  In some cases, the website doesn’t allow for a header on each page, and therefore you can only put view content on the website as a whole.  But with WordPress, and especially the marketing platform I use, you can easily put the code into the website as shown in the video above.

Facebook can be a powerful platform to market your business.  If you use Facebook pixels to their full extent, then you can get even more from your Facebook ads.
