This happens a lot because a lot of people try to use social media for “push” marketing… whereas they are trying to just sell their products or services. And that is probably one of the toughest ways to get more business.
Instead, I’ve learned that when you use niche social media marketing correctly, you can have a much greater impact on your business. That’s why today I want to talk about niche social media marketing and how to get started.

What is Niche Social Media Marketing
Niche social media marketing is where you focus on a particular topic and market to it. So what’s a niche?
According to Wikipedia, a niche market is the subset of the market on which a specific product is focused. The market niche defines as the product features aimed at satisfying specific market needs, as well as the price range, production quality and the demographics that is intended to impact.
So what does that mean?
Basically it means that you narrow down your audience to a particular interest. In the video, I gave the example of narrowing down to an audience that likes a particular type of car… but you can really narrow it down to almost anything.
Here are some examples (and remember these are only examples, and niches can combined these items or more narrowly narrow them down):
- Bars & restaurants
- Architecture of a specific type
- A particular sport or sports team
- Fashion retail
- Film making
- Horse riding
- Particular type of pet
- Real estate
- T-shirt designs
- A style of art
Why Do Niche Social Media Marketing
A mistake I often see is that people try to market to as broad an audience as possible because they are afraid to miss a possible sale. And that is the wrong way of looking at things.
Have you ever heard the expression, “If you talk to everyone, you talk to no one”?
The problem is that you can’t talk to a particular audience if you are too broad in your approach. If you are trying to market vintage car parts, its harder to market them when you are also trying to attract dog lovers. Sure there is some cross over, but if you try to please both you are diluting the message.
Now if you build a niche around vintage cars and attract vintage car lovers, its so much easier to market to them.
This holds true to anything you are trying to promote. And if you are trying to market to several interests, then you may have to split up your marketing and market to each one specifically.
Sure you can make some sales using the shotgun approach, but you won’t be as effective with your time.
How Do You Do Niche Social Media Marketing
The concept to niche social media is to pick a niche, and then start creating your social media content around that niche.
For example, with the vintage car example you start posting content about… vintage cars? This can be pictures you take, content you find (be careful of copy-write content), tips, and even pictures or videos of you enjoying a ride or listening to an engine rev up.
Vintage car enthusiasts will love this type of content and they’ll engage with it and keep coming back for more. That’s how you start to build up a following that you can market to long term.
Final Thoughts On Niche Social Media
Identifying your niche social media can really help you hone in with your social media marketing. Take the time to clearly identify your target niche like we discussed. It will help you get the most effective results for your effort.
