What is On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO – Search Engine Optimization

What is On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO – Search Engine Optimization” written by Mike Marko.

Ok, I am an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) junkie. I love SEO. The more you write content for your website, the more traffic you generate for your website. If done correctly, if you go after low competition keyword phrases you could generate 10-50 visitors a month per blog post… Sure that doesn’t sound like a lot on the surface. But if you write a blog post a day for 90 days that becomes at least 900 visitors a month or 30 visitors a day. Those are new visitors who have never seen your website before. When you add in return traffic, you can see how you can really get a lot of traffic to your website and ultimately to your offers or business opportunities.

VIDEO: What is On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO

In the above video, I talk about what is on-page SEO and off-page SEO. I break the search engine ranking factors, how Google determines how to place a website in the search results, into three categories.

1. Authority of Domain & Pages

All new websites start off with zero authority. Google ranks websites using PR (Page Rank) using a scale of PR0 to PR10. It isn’t until the website has been around for a while before Google increases a website’s PR value.

The best way to increase a site’s ranking is to add backlinks. Google will recognize the backlinks as “votes” to increase the authority of the site.

2. Age of Domain

The longer a site has been around the more relevancy Google gives it. In fact a site has to be around for at least 3 to 6 months before Google gives it any credibility. You will find that after 3-6 months, suddenly you may find you are ranking higher for many of your webpages.

Unfortunately a lot of people who just start off blogging give up before they get to this point. It is important to blog every day, doing your SEO homework up front. If you follow the tips in this blog series, you will wake up after a few months pleasantly surprised as you start ranking for several keywords.

So keep it up!

3. Relevancy of Search Phrases – What is On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO

Google’s goal is to end search. When someone finds what they are looking for, Google has successfully achieved that goal.

Google’s job is to provide the most relevant search results in order of importance based on what we type into the search bar.

Our Goal is to make sure our content shows up at the top of the search results.

Our job is to end search with quality blog posts, videos, and even with content we create on 3rd party authority sites.

What is On-Page SEO

It is key that you do a little homework for each blog post now. It will make it a lot easier to rank in Google. If you skip on-page SEO then the rest of your work is most likely worthless.

First of all, you want to have one webpage or blog per keyword phrase.

Sure there are pages that rank for several keywords but that is not the norm, nor is it easy. But if you focus on one keyword phrase per webpage it increases your chance of successfully building traffic to your website. For example, MLM Lead and MLM Leads each need their own webpage or blog post.

The following are on-page SEO optimization factors:

  • Keyword Research
  • Meta Keywords
  • Meta Description
  • Keyword in the Title
  • Keyword in Alt Tags (images)
  • Header Tags (H1-H6)
  • Keyword Density
  • Internal Linking to Your Content
  • Bounce Rate
  • Page Engagement

What is Off-Page SEO

If you want to rank your webpages (remember Google ranks webpages and not websites) then off-page SEO optimization is very important.

Off-page SEO optimization refers to how many other webpages or websites are linking to your webpage or content.

A link back to your website is like voting for the president. The website linking to your website is telling Google that they vouch for you, and trust your content as the source for the topic.
The more web pages linking to your webpage tells Google your content is popular, and if all the other factors are in place, will raise the probability of your content ranking high in the search engines.

The main off-page SEO optimization factors include:

  • Number of backlinks pointing to your site
  • Number of quality authority backlinks with PR
  • Number of Facebook Likes & Shares
  • Number of Twitter Tweets & Retweets
  • Number of Google +1
  • Anchor text of your backlinks
  • Anchor text diversity
  • IP Diversity
  • Diversity of your backlinks

Backlinks are very important to building the ranking of your webpage. When you rank to your webpage you need to make sure that you use a variety of anchor text. This includes:

This may seem like a lot to cover so far, so apply SEO in small steps. Pick an aspect like on-page SEO and practice it for a while until you feel like you are doing it well. Then start learning off-page SEO.

As you continue to practice and learn SEO, you’ll be rewarded with the results down the road. Remember you are building a long term business here. Be patient and blog every day!
